How to Wear Camo

How to Wear Camo

I have avoided the camouflage trend like the plague. Being from the south, camo was something I saw quite frequently, usually in regards to hunting or those who proudly love being called a redneck (not that I have a problem with rednecks, but I'm just not one of them); however, I have started to come around and enjoy a stylish camouflage pant now. I love this version by BDG (my favorite brand of jeans). I love the skinny leg and accurate large pockets, but it also cuts above the ankles making it very versatile and well... cute.

It can be tricky styling this bold print, but here's my easy how-to-style camo print guide:

1. A slouchy sweater in a neutral color is an easy way to go when wearing a bold print. I like adding bold accessories to such a basic look by pairing it with bright Dr. Martens and a delicate chevron scarf.

2. Any girl who loves a little rock n roll will have a fun time styling camo. Give your camouflage pants a tough-girl vibe with a band tee and spike bracelets. Keep it truly unique by pairing it with a tweed motorcycle jacket and peep-toe pumps.

3. By adding a bright chiffon top, this gives the camo print bottoms something unexpected. I really like this tie-waist one because it's extra girly and it's an easy way to hit two trends at once (something I would otherwise never normally say). Keep the rest of the outfit looking tougher by wearing a neutral colored hoodie overtop and a pair of studded motorcycle boots.

4. I love the idea of pairing dresses over pants. And I really love the idea of pairing a lace dress over camouflage ones. Keep the rest of the outfit simple, however, by wearing a white tank underneath and everyday ankle boots. I also like the idea of adding a chic accessory like this bauble bracelet.

So there you have it, a stylish, tomboy chic way to wear camouflage pants.

Spring Wishlist

Spring Wishlist

I woke up this morning to delicately falling snow and a cold apartment, but I'm more than ready for spring. Especially since I keep getting catalogs and magazines with shorts and sunglasses as the main feature. My Spring Wishlist: Ray-Ban Thick Cat Eye Wayfarer Sunglasses, Cle de Peau Concealer,  denim cut offs (I especially love these ones from J Crew), Penny Loves Kenny oxfords, American Apparel Unisex Denim Jacket, J Crew Tilda Rhinestone Top, Bebe Wide Stripe Midi Skirt, and Jeffery Campbell Hanger Bootie that I've had my eyes on since last Fall (graduation present for self?).

Do you have any must-haves for spring?

Bow Ties, Oh My!

Bow Ties, Oh My!

Ever wonder how to wear a bow tie? No worries, I'm here to help. We all know they look great with a tux, in your hair, or a button-up, but how else can you style them? Here are a few ideas:

1. Your favorite denim shirt and a cute lace skirt get instant style points when brogues and a studded bow tie are your accessories.

2. Take a (good) fashion risk! Start with a flowy, pastel dress (your bow tie will look best with one that has a high neckline) and add a textured bow tie instead of a necklace. Play down the dress with a thick cardigan and colorful flats.

3. Mix up patterns by pairing a plaid bow tie with a polka dot blouse. Keep your accessories menswear-inspired by donning a fedora, your favorite ripped jeans, and ankle boots.

4. Add some edge to a classic polka dot sweater by pairing it with plaid pants and a leather bow tie. Keep the rest of your accessories to a minimal and be sure to add some sexy nude pumps.

5. Keep it sporty with a varsity sweater, classic button-up, and denim shorts. Give your accessories all the fun by pairing with a bright bow tie and sparkly sneakers.

6. Keep it minimal and chic by pairing a contrasting button-up with a textured black bow tie (this one has some sparkle). Add a cute pair of flower-print shorts and heeled oxfords for a chic girl-meets-boy look.

Tomboy Chic Goes Red and Pink for Valentine's Day

Red & Pink

I don't usually dress up special for Valentine's Day, but wearing pink and red together as always been one of my favorite "fashion rules" to break. So this V-Day, if you are going to dress up, break rules the tomboy chic way!

Outfit 1: Since it's Valentine's Day, start with a graphic heart print shirt, and break all the rules by wearing a bright pair of shorts with a pair of equally bright tights. Complete the look with a boyfriend blazer, bright loafers, and matching (or not so matching) adorable bowler hat.

Outfit 2: Once again, start with a heart tee and pair it with a clashing pair of red skinny jeans. Top it off with a leather biker jacket for a slight edge and a bright infinity scarf. Complete the look with your favorite pair of edgy cage heels

Outfit 3: This V-Day look is my personal favorite. I love the idea of pairing a soft chiffon wrap over a silk button-up shirt. And wearing them with a nice pair of dress pants. I also like the idea of playing down the delicate-vibe of the top layers with a pair of neon oxfords and neon satchel.

I hope everyone has a happy Valentines or Anti-Valentines Day! Regardless, I know I'm going to be enjoying myself by relaxing and eating chocolates.

Nerd Essentials

Nerd chic has been in for a while now, but I thought I'd share my favorite nerdy essentials for a  tomboy-nerd twist. So how would a tomboy chic lady transform into a geek? It's honestly not too different from the every day...

Nerd Chic Essentials

For starters, every good geek needs a classic button-up shirt and a blazer--you should always be prepared for a debate meet, science fair, or career development day. As well as some traditional plaid. I love these not-so geeky Derek Lam pants. Instead of a purse, or even just your pockets, think about getting a leather backpack and pencil holder. I prefer leather for a more grown-up twist. And keep your balance running between classes with a pair of plain sneakers.  Complete the look with a pair of knee-highs, bow tie, and of course, your handy glasses.
